With the continuous advancement of technology and the increasing demands of society, Professor Qu Jinping's team, consisting of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professors from South China University of Technology, is leading the plastic processing industry into a new era. They have successfully transformed the traditional "shear rheology-based processing" into a revolutionary "stretching rheology-based processing," breaking the long-standing pattern of polymer processing centered around screws. This innovative technology is referred to as "green processing and molding technology for high polymer materials based on stretching rheology" and was awarded the National Technology Invention Second Prize in 2015.

 

The successful application of this innovative technology has not only brought about significant theoretical breakthroughs but also gained widespread recognition in practice. UNIQUE boldly adopted this technology and incorporated it into their specialized equipment for high-speed injection molding of PET bottle preforms. Through rigorous testing and practical verification, the injection molding equipment empowered by this technology has achieved industrialization and significantly enhanced product performance. The test results demonstrate that the application of this new technology has positioned UNIQUE at the forefront of international market competition, providing the company with enormous profit potential.

 

As the era of intelligence dawns, smart manufacturing is propelling the manufacturing industry towards greater energy efficiency and productivity. Dynamic injection molding technology, developed by South China University of Technology, has been recognized as a key national energy-saving and low-carbon technology and has been listed in the "Catalog of Key National Energy-Saving and Low-Carbon Technology Promotion" by China's National Development and Reform Commission (Energy-Saving Section, 2015). Furthermore, industry experts widely acknowledge that the combination of stretching rheology and dynamic molding technology holds tremendous potential for widespread adoption, revolutionizing the plastic processing industry.

 

Additionally, stretching rheology and dynamic molding technology play a significant role in improving AA and lv values. As a food-grade packaging material, the permeation of acetaldehyde can impact the quality of packaged beverages and food, eventually leading to product deterioration. The levels of AA values are generally associated with thermal oxidation reactions. Under traditional shear-based processes, AA values typically range from 3 to 4 PPM. However, stretching rheology and dynamic molding technology employ a combination of screw and barrel for plasticization, completely different from traditional shear-based processes, enabling a reduction in AA values to even lower levels.

 

For manufacturers, the molecular weight of the product is an important indicator. In particular, intrinsic viscosity (lv value) is commonly used to reflect the molecular weight of plastic products, influencing performance aspects such as usage and strength of subsequent processed products. However, under traditional shear-based processes, lv values are limited by the viscosity range of the raw materials, often unable to reach lower levels. In contrast, the application of stretching rheology and dynamic molding technology can control lv values at around 10% of the viscosity range of the raw materials, thus achieving higher-quality finished products.

 

The breakthrough development of stretching rheology and dynamic molding technology opens up a new era in plastic processing, enhancing both product performance and quality while contributing to energy conservation and environmental protection. The successful application of this technology will bring tremendous opportunities and challenges to the plastic processing industry, driving the plastic manufacturing sector towards a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future.
